How to book Qatar Qsuites
Jan 29, 2025What I'm booking
I've been fortunate to have flown Qatar Qsuites several times, and I flew them again this past fall ... all the way to a South African safari! Qatar has great connectivity throughout the world, especially to cities within the African continent. Qsuites are one of the best business class products in the world, with huge seats, a closing door, excellent food, and pajamas (check out my IG reel for a review).
I used 75,000 AA miles and $41.80 in taxes and fees per person to get us all the way from LAX to Doha to Johannesburg, a cash value of $10,847 for two.
Tip: How to book it
Qatar is a One World airline and has many options for booking, including through its own program, Qatar Avios. I was lucky to find Qatar availability through American Airline's calendar, as using AA miles represents one of the best deals for flying QSuites long distances. Flights from the US to Doha start at 70,000 AA miles, with further destinations adding a small amount of points.
However Qatar releases little award space to AA anymore, and AA's calendar only goes out to 331 days, while Qatar's calendar opens 361 days in advance. You can also book Qatar flights through Alaska and JetBlue, though availability is also limited. Your best bets are going to be booking through Qatar and British Airways, which share an Avios program. Through this shared program, every transferable credit card program can transfer to Qatar Airways. You can connect your accounts through either program, and then you'll be able to see the Avios balance in each.
Qatar releases business awards from North America to Doha for 70,000 Avios as a saver fare, 94,500 Avios expanded availability fare, and 140,000 Avios flex fare, with additional Avios needed for destinations further.
Credit Cards: What I might close
Rumored changes to the American Express Gold card became true when it was announced the annual fee would be increasing from $250 to $325 (rates & fees). This card was a fan favorite by earning 4x on dining (up to $50,000 annually, then 1x) and US supermarkets (up to $25,000 annually, then 1x), as these categories represent a large amount of spend for US families. However the new increased annual fee, credits, and limits on earning might leave some looking for an alternative, including me!
Once the annual fee hits, I may switch my spending over to my $0 annual fee Capital One Savor card. This card earns 3x points on dining and groceries, as well as 3x points on entertainment and streaming. By itself, this card is a cash back card, however when paired with a Venture Rewards-earning card (Venture, Venture X, Venture X Business, Spark Miles for Business), this card earns points! 3x on these categories for no annual fee and no coupon book seems like a win-win. Capital One transfers to British Airways Avios, making it a great option for booking QSuites.
